  1. Shea & Olive Hand Cream

    This is a simple-to-make hand cream that dry hands will love. Shea butter and olive oil are rich in nutrients, and prevent the skin from drying out. Sandalwood essential oil has been used in hand oils and creams since ancient times, and soothes dry, cracked skin.

    You will need:

    12g shea butter (refined)
    30ml olive oil
    12g beeswax
    10 drops sandalwood essential oil

    To make:

    Melt the shea butter and beeswax in a double boiler/bain marie. Stir in the olive oil and remove from the heat. Add the sandalwood essential oil. Stir until the cream has set.

  2. Rosewater & Glycerine Hand Barrier Gel

    Rosewater and glycerine hand barrier gel will both soften and protect your hands when gardening or doing other jobs which can be rough on the hands. Sandalwood helps to moisturise dry, rough skin on the hands.

    You will need:

    118ml rosewater
    15ml glycerine
    2.5ml xanthan gum
    10 drops sandalwood essential oil

    Follow the method for making gels. Allow the finished gel to cool and pour into a bottle. This gel is simple and easy to make, and can be made on the spot when needed.

  3. Rich Honey Handwash

    Honey is healing and moisturising, and combined with castile soap and pecan oil, makes a gentle cleanser for hands. Use this hand cleanser if the skin on your hands is chapped and dry.

     

     

    You will need:

     

    15ml honey

    30ml liquid castile soap

    60ml pecan oil

     

     

    Method:

     

    Place the ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk or blend until smooth. Pour the hand wash into a clean bottle.

  4. Gardener's Egg & Almond Barrier Cream

    Use this cream on your hands before any gardening or hard manual work.

    You will need:

    15ml kaolin
    10ml almond oil
    1 egg yolk

    Method:

    Whisk the almond oil, egg yolk and kaolin together. Mix up a fresh batch for each use.

    To use:

    Massage the cream well into the hands and leave to dry. When you have finished gardening, wash it off. This is an excellent skin-softener, and well worth the small amount of effort required...:o)
