Lemongrass Essential Oil

Posted on

INCI name: Cymbopogon Citratus

Lemongrass essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the fresh and dried leaves of this fragrant perennial grass. It is cultivated and distilled in the West Indies, Africa, parts of Asia and western India.

The essential oil has a lemon-fresh aroma with a spicy undertone, and makes an excellent deodoriser. It blends well with minty and herbal essential oils. Lemongrass essential oil is antimicrobial, antiseptic, astringent, antibacterial, fungicidal, deodorising and toning.

In skin care preparations it is used for acne and open pores, skin toners, athlete's foot, scabies, insect repellent and heavy perspiration. A few drops of lemongrass and peppermint essential oils mixed into sweet almond oil and applied to the temples will help to fend off the beginnings of a headache.
