Coconut Oil Cleanser

Not everyone can, or wants to, wash their face with soap and water. This is a simple, organic facial cleanser that will gently sweep away all makeup, dirt and grime without stripping the skin of its own natural oils.

Because it is oil-based, you will need an astringent to remove any oil traces. A tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in your rinse water will suffice, or, if you like to have a bottle of astringent to hand, try 30ml apple cider vinegar mixed with 220ml water in a 250ml bottle .

You will need:

45ml coconut oil (solid)
13ml olive oil
15ml glycerine
2ml Vitamin E
30ml water

Melt the coconut oil, olive oil, glycerine and water together in a double boiler, and then remove from the heat. Beat or whisk the mixture (an electric whisk is best) until it cools to emulsify it.  Whisk the Vitamin E in when the mixture has cooled to 40 degrees C.

Do not use fractionated (liquid)coconut oil, as the mixture will not emulsify. Keep in the refrigerator, as coconut oil can melt when temperatures rise.
