We've had to disable the website template for the blog as it interferes with the text display and causes bits of it to disappear completely.

It's a bit rough and unvarnished looking, but hey ho...:)

Betula Alba

The leaves, bark and tar of the birch tree are used for herbal remedies. The leaves are used topically for skin inflammations, due to their astringent qualities. Use 15% birch tar in an ointment to treat scabies and other parasites of the skin, and 8% for eczema, psoriasis and other chronic skin conditions. Birch tar is extracted through dry distillation of the bark and wood. It is dark brown and is thick and sticky.

The leaf extract is used in hair care to tone the scalp and make hair soft and glossy. Make a decoction and use as a hair rinse, or add it to your homemade herbal shampoo. Always add a preservative if you add herbs to your homemade skin and hair care products.
