We've had to disable the website template for the blog as it interferes with the text display and causes bits of it to disappear completely.

It's a bit rough and unvarnished looking, but hey ho...:)

Lettuce

Lactuca sativa

Lettuce is astringent, soothing, calming and healing and can be used for spotty skin and skin that has been roughened by exposure to the elements i.e. sun and wind.

Put a whole lettuce in a saucepan and pour in enough water to cover it. Bring to the boil then lower the heat and simmer for fifteen minutes. Leave to cool, then strain the lettuce water and refrigerate. Use as washing water for blemished skin, or apply directly to wind- or sunburned skin with cotton pads. Lettuce water can also be used as an astringent. Make in small batches and use the lettuce water within a few days.

Place fresh lettuce leaves with a little water in a blender or food processor and whiz until the lettuce is reduced to a pulp. Add some plain full-fat yoghurt and mix well to form a paste. Use this paste as a revitalising face mask for tired or dingy skin.
