  1. CO2 extracts are oils extracted from plants using liquid carbon dioxide as the solvent. The beneficial constituents are extracted without exposure to heat, thus avoiding deterioration. These oils are considered to be of the highest possible quality.

Gromwell root is believed to have antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The CO2 extract is usually combined with jojoba oil and is a deep red color - it acts as a product colourant while at the same time contributing active ingredient value in soothing, healing formulations.

  3. Here is an extremely simple and quick face wash. Handmade castile (olive oil) soap is one of the gentlest facial cleansers available. Almond powder is gently cleansing and exfoliating, and the addition of a small amount of sweet almond oil ensures that the paste is gentle, cleansing and moisturising.

Make this wash in small amounts as directed and store in the refrigerator, as there are no added preservatives.

    You will need:

30g finely grated castile soap (preferably handmade)
    30g ground almonds
    7ml sweet almond oil
    10 drops lavender essential oil.

    Method:

Weigh out all ingredients into a mixing bowl using an accurate scale. Combine all the ingredients thoroughly until you have a creamy, thick paste. Spoon the paste into a jar.

    To use:

Wet face and place a small amount of the face wash into the palm of your hand. Work into a lather and use to gently wash your face. Rinse and pat dry.
